Young Central Queensland Carers benefit from Black Dog Ball funded programs
As a result of the 2017 event, a phenomenal $45,000 was raised to fund Carers Queensland programs for young carers throughout CQ, who are caring for a family member or a loved one with a mental illness or disability. The programs are currently running and will continue through most of 2018. The evidence-based programs teach resilience and strategies around coping with the stress of being an adolescent whilst balancing the challenges faced through being a full time carer at such a young age.
In 2018, The Black Dog Ball Committee are excited to announce that they are funding Anglicare’s Youth Programs that provide early intervention to the young people of Central Queensland aged 12 to 18 years. The programs place a particular focus providing support to those at risk of harm including self harm, who may be disengaging from school, training or employment. The programs provide the strategies to promote strength and resilience to help them to grow into strong, confident members of their community.
We are particularly invested in the programs have a broad reach throughout more remote and regional communities in Central Queensland, allowing us to focus our efforts on centres across our region who need these integral programs but don’t ordinarily have access. Anglicare’s youth programs being funded are spread across CQ areas which include Barcaldine, Winton, Biloela, Blackwater, Emerald, Moura and Springsure.
In light of the tragic passing of Dolly Everett early this year, the Black Dog Ball Committee are dedicated to ensure the resilience programs funded address the dangers of cyber bullying. Working in partnership with the Anglicare Youth Programs, our vision is to work collaboratively with community groups and leaders, schools and other stakeholders to ensure that programs have maximum benefit for our young people, and provide ongoing support. Ongoing support is an absolute priority as we believe education is only part of the solution, ongoing support and follow ups that engage the entire community will deliver continued support and positive outcomes for CQ youth.
We are extremely grateful to our sponsors and supporters. It is through your generosity that we can continue to make a difference in Central Queensland.
